How Drinking Bleach Can Kill You
Household bleach has many uses. Its good for removing stains and disinfecting surfaces. Adding bleach to water is an effective way to make it safe to use as drinking water. However, theres a reason there is a poison symbol on bleach containers and a warning to keep them away from children and pets. Drinking undiluted bleach can kill you. What Is in Bleach? Ordinary household bleach sold in gallon jugs (e.g., Clorox)à is 5.25% sodium hypochlorite in water. Additional chemicals may be added, especially if the bleach is scented. Some formulations of bleach are sold containing a lower concentration of sodium hypochlorite. Additionally, there are other types of bleaching agents. Bleach has a shelf life, so the exact amount of sodium hypochlorite depends largely on how old the product is and whether it has been opened and sealed properly. Because bleach is so reactive, it undergoes a chemical reaction with air, so the concentration of sodium hypochlorite goes down over time. What Happens If You Drink Bleach Sodium hypochlorite removes stains and disinfects because it is an oxidizing agent. If you inhale the vapors or ingest bleach, it oxidizes your tissues. Mild exposure from inhalation can result in stinging eyes,à a burning throat, and coughing. Because it is corrosive, touching bleach can cause chemical burns on your hands unless you wash it off immediately. If you drink bleach, it oxidizes or burns tissues in your mouth, esophagus, and stomach. According to the National Institutes of Health, it can cause nausea, chest pain, lowered blood pressure, delirium, coma, and potentially death. What Should You Do If Someone Drinks Bleach? If you suspect someone has ingested bleach, contact Poison Control immediately. One possible effect from drinking bleach is vomiting, but it is not advisable to induce vomiting because this can cause additional irritation and damage to tissue and may put the person at risk of aspirating bleach into the lungs. First aid typically includes giving the affected person water or milk to dilute the chemical. Note that highly diluted bleach can be another matter entirely. It is common practice to add a small amount of bleach to water to make it potable. The concentration is enough that the water has a slight chlorine (swimming pool) smell and taste and it may lead to a slightly upset stomach, but it should not cause burning or difficulty swallowing. If it does, the concentration of bleach very likely is too high. Avoid adding bleach to water that contains acids, such as vinegar. The reaction between bleach and vinegar, even in a diluted solution, releases irritating and potentially dangerous chlorine and chloramine vapors. If immediate first aid is administered, most people recover from drinking bleach (sodium hypochlorite poisoning). However, the risk of chemical burns, permanent damage, and even death are present. How Much Bleach Is Okay to Drink? According to the U.S. EPA, drinking water should contain no more than 4 ppm (parts per million) chlorine. Municipal water supplies commonly deliver between 0.2 and 0.5 ppm chlorine. When bleach is added to water for emergency disinfection, it is highly diluted. Suggested dilution ranges from the Centers for Disease Control are 8 drops of bleach per gallon of clear water up to 16 drops per gallon of cloudy water. Can You Drink Bleach to Pass a Drug Test? There are all kinds of rumors about ways you can beat a drug test. Obviously, the easiest way to pass the test is to avoid taking drugs in the first place, but thats not going to be much help if youve already taken something and are facing a test. Cloroxà says their bleach contains water, sodium hypochlorite,à sodium chloride,à sodium carbonate, sodium hydroxide, and sodium polyacrylate. They also make scented products that include fragrances. Bleach also contains small amounts of impurities, which arent a big deal when youre using the product for disinfection or cleaningà but could proveà toxic if ingested.à None of these ingredients binds to drugs or their metabolites or inactivates them such that you would test negative on a drug test. Bottom Line: Drinking bleach wont help you pass a drug test and may make you sick or dead.

True Love - 1129 Words
The Wonders of Love What is it about love that makes people search endlessly for it? We are all capable of love, yet more often than not, we seem to have trouble finding it. Often, once weve found it, we have a hard time holding on to it. Why is that? I believe its because people dont know what true love is all about. They think its all about the feelingsÃ⦠the butterflies in your stomach, the passion, the anguish of waiting to see that person again. And dont get me wrong, these are all wonderful things to experience. However, they are not what makes love. They help to create the initial relationship, but what will ultimately hold your relationship together is time and effort. You cant simply run away when things get tough, youâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦You dont need to communicate, in order to be in lust with someoneÃ⦠but you do need it for love. Davies continues in his essay: People who love each other should talk to each other; they should confide their real thoughts, their honest emotions, their deepest wishes. How else are they to keep their union in repair? (54) That is my point exactly! If you dont talk to each other, youll never know whats going on. You cant just assume that everythings fine, simply because you arent fighting. There are many benefits to being able to have a good conversation with each other. One person may be having a bad day and need someone to talk it out with, or even just vent to; who better than their soul mate? Who would better understand the trials and tribulations you both face? Talking things out is the best way to work out any and all problems that couples face. As the brilliant William Shakespeare points out in Sonnet 116: Ãâ¦love is not love which alters when alteration findsÃ⦠it is an ever-fixed mark that looks on tempests and is never shaken (2-6). True love doesnt back down just because youve encountered a problem, true love can weather any storm. All you need to do is be able to work it out between you. Presentation on Behavior Theory
Question: Write about thePresentation on Behavior Theory. Answer: This is an approach to psychology founded on the assumption that behavior can be investigated scientifically without assistance of the inner mental states. It is also a study of specific behavior of a person. The newspaper article in use is an article in a newspaper known as Woroni by the Australian National University, located at Canberra. The name Woroni is derived from a native Australian word meaning mouthpiece. Woroni is published every two weeks in full color tabloid format, and features broad coverage of university and local news. It was formerly published asStudent Notes. The writer of the tries how human behavior has influenced dressing has influenced dressing hence leading to a clique in dressing. She begins with explaining how if you visited any school during free days you easily place people in their respective groups by just looking at their clothes (Glanz, Rimer and Viswanath, 2015). She further explains the different kinds of dressing from kids in black trenches to the girls in yellow spandex ra-ra skirts and pink boob tubes. She states how by this type of dressing the kids are expressing their identities. She explains how in her high school one could gauge how popular a girl was by how low her ankles socks were. Though the uniform code was to wear that covered the ankle bone and how dropping sock below that point was to flout the authorities, the popularity of the girls who went against this uniform code had their popularities off the charts (Nuttin and Greenwald, 2014). She even explains how these girls even went around with cigarettes and undergarments showing. She says that the clique dressing also reminds her of the gangs in America in which one could easily tell who was the yo brutha for a criminal and who to shoot by just looking at their color-coded clothes. The article further states that all this dressing i.e. punk dressing, Goth dressing etc. are all ways of belonging to different gangs, full of dress rules and code of behavior (Watt, 2013). The author further criticizes Miss Hilton on her behavior to dress her pets in matching clothing. The author further explains how couples find themselves wearing the same outfits as their other half simply because they have very similar taste. The article explains how we as the world are all clique dressing as human behavior is programmed to conform to want to fit in. The author further explains how we fool ourselves into thinking we are different and that we are curving out an identity for ourselves by putting on the clothes we do every morning (Altman, Valenzi and Hodgetts, 2013). However, all we are doing is finding a place to belong and hence putting on the gear that goes along with the group is one way to gain membership. She finalizes her article by stating that we are in an us and them world and clothes will show you where everybody belongs. The article used clearly show us how human dressing behavior is investigated scientifically without any interaction with the inner mental state by just looking at how man uses his dressing to fit in unconsciously.
